Hálo My Fellow Adventurers! Happy 1st of May!

YES those photos above are from Edinburgh, Scotland! I actually took them just this morning while on my morning walk to get coffee through The Meadows park!

Can you believe it's already May! Time for spring flowers, cherry blossoms, warm weather (well warm for Scotland), final exams, and of course at the end of it all I will have to fly back to America, marking the end of my 'study abroad' session.

Now don't cry my fellow adventurer, as sad as I am to know that I will be leaving Scotland within the next few weeks, have no fear because not only will I continue to write and update posts about my time spent abroad after I leave, but I will continue to write blog posts while I am at my new magical internship for the summer/fall, for my life is once continuous journey!

So what is this 'magical' internship that I keep talking about/mentioned in a previous blog post? Well finally I am ready to share with you all my AMAZING news!!!

Beginning in the month of June, I, Meghan Chayka, will begin working for a company that I grew up traveling with, one of the many reasons why I love traveling the world and have the travel bug deep inside me itching, is a travel agency under the umbrella of The Walt Disney Company known as Adventures By Disney! And my official internship title will be 'Adventures By Disney Professional Trip Development Intern', so no I am not in the Disney College Program, rather I am apart of what's called the Disney Professional Internship group, an opportunity that I know is going to be life changing for me as I intend to relish, improve, learn and contribute to every moment! So even though I am sad to be leaving Scotland very soon, I couldn't be more excited to return to the states, move to California and begin my new internship journey, working for a company I love, surrounding the theme of traveling! Seems very fitting for someone like me, right?!

Back to the topic of today being 'May Day', ever wonder exactly what that term means aside from it stating the date? Well here in the UK, the 1st of May (May Day) is a bank holiday as observed by England, Northern Ireland and Wales, and is known as Early May Bank Holiday in Scotland. However, for many people around the world, May Day is celebrated as the first official day of summer, and in some cultures, maypole dancing and festivals are hosted in honor of the changing of seasons!

This morning when I woke up and embarked on my daily walk to get a cup of coffee, I decided to cut through a park here in Edinburgh called 'The Meadows' so I could smell the fresh air and see if the cherry blossoms had already started blooming! Well to my surprise, compared to what the park looked like just one week ago with bare trees, they had! The air smelt like fresh, dewy flowers, a few dogs were barking, a few birds were chirping and the breeze, this time filled with a hint of warmth undercutting the brisk Scotland chill wrapped around me, letting me know that summer is here!

Seeing as how today is May 1st and as I previously mentioned the first day of the final examination period here at the University of Edinburgh, throughout the next few weeks as I prepare to leave, not only will I be trying to run around Edinburgh exploring all there is left that I still want to see but on May 9th and May 16th I have my two final exams. "Wait Meghan, I thought you were taking three courses?" Very good observation fellow adventurer! Yes this past semester I did take three classes, however, only two of my courses 'Scandinavian Civilizations' and 'Visualizing Scotland' have final exams while my third course 'The History of Edinburgh' had a final project that was due and already turned in as the final grade before I went on Spring Break vacation!

Which brings me right into my next point, where did I go on Spring Break! Since my last post on April 6th (also my 21st Birthday), from April 11th to the 16th I went to London, England with my parents who flew into visit me (and celebrate my birthday)! After my parent's left, from April 20th to the 25th I then flew to Stockholm, Sweden! Now no need to fret my fellow adventurer, I'm sure your just as excited to read about my Spring Break adventurers as I am to write them! So over the next few days as I prepare for my final exams, in between studying and exploring Edinburgh I will be writing and posting all about England and Sweden!

In the meantime just to give you a preview of what kinds of adventures I did do, in England I received my birthday present from my parents (the whole purpose of our initial trip to London) was I got to visit Downton Abbey, truly a dream come true!!!!! Also in England we went to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter, road the London Eye, visited the Winston Churchill War Rooms, and ate dinner at The Ivy! Now while in Sweden I visited the Royal Palace, Gamla Stan (the old town), Skansen (the open air museum), the Vasa Museum, I did a Royal Canal Under the Bridges of Stockholm boat tour, visited the famous City Hall and had some AMAZING food! Wow, just writing this little blurb about my two country adventures makes me excited to relive the memories all over again as I write the full travel posts for you to read! To wrap this thought up, I honestly had an amazing Spring Break and feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to do all the traveling I was able to do! I know I am young so someday I will be back to both those countries and continue to travel throughout my life even more as my travel bug continues to grow!

Well there you have it my fellow adventurer, after reading this post you now know that yes indeed the sun does shine in Scotland, flowers do bloom, I have a professional internship with Adventures By Disney, the term May Day actually means more than just the 1st of May, it's also a bank and festival holiday, I only have two final exams this semester, over Spring Break I visited England and Sweden and of course one cannot forget that within the next few weeks I will officially departing from Scotland!

Until Next Time Fellow Adventurer... Hope you had a happy May Day too!

Cheers,

Meghan Chayka
