Review:
Fascinated by magic, gothic cathedrals, unique dining experiences, fabulous food or all of the above! If you answered yes to even just one of the descriptions on the list, then look no further for a place to satisfy your needs! No other dining venue in Edinburgh will give you an experience like that then The Witchery, located at the top of the Royal Mile in Scotland!
My first dining experience at The Witchery took place on January 16th, 2018 in the restaurant's formal dining room with my parents (see picture below).

Since January 16th was the last night my parents had in Scotland, saying goodbye to me until my time is up at the University of Edinburgh, this was a special evening that called for a special dinner event, so it would be an understatement for me to say that dinner was good, because it wasn't just good, it was magically magnificent!
Before I go into any more detail as to how amazing the dining experience was, I want to tell you what each one of us had for dinner to give you a better idea of the whole 3 course ambiance...
Meals
Meghan (myself):
Starter - None
Main Course - Egg White Lobster and Crab Omelette with sauce Americaine (egg white was granted upon request), combined with a seasonal greens (kale) side order (extra cost)
Dessert - Apple Cinnamon Tea with Traditional Scottish Biscuits (my favorite!)
Mom:
Starter - Salad of Roast Pumpkin
Main Course - Egg White Lobster and Crab Omelette with sauce Americaine (egg white was granted upon request), and no side order
Dessert - Deconstructed Marjolaine
Dad:
Starter - Smoked Isle of Wight heritage tomato soup, pancetta, lemon pesto
Main Course - Roast Atlantic Halibut, and no side order
Dessert - Dark Belgian Chocolate Tart
Now back to my review, the first thing that you may have noticed from reading our dinner selections, is that between myself and my mother, since we prefer to have egg white omelettes, once we saw that there was the option to have one for dinner, the waiter ever so graciously helped us order the meal substituting egg whites, no problem! Our waiter was very polite, accommodating as well as easy to understand (considering his Scottish accent), and came to be very helpful throughout the meal, suggesting meals that we might find appealing!
I chose to pass on a starter because I wanted to get a side order with my meal (as I didn't want to get to full for dessert), but my parents didn't get a side order and were still comfortably full (having had an appetizer), but it's really all up to you, the eater, your stomach and your palet. (see image of Lobster and Crab Omelette below).

While I cannot speak for my dad and his main course meal, I feel the need to tell you about my Lobster and Crab Omelette because it was out of this world! First off, I have never had an omelette like this for dinner before (not counting the few times I have had a breakfast omelette for dinner at IHOP), for this course had the most fluffy, fresh eggs I have ever had, FILLED with chunks of melt in your mouth lobster as well as equally tasting buttery crab! Dressed in sauce Americaine with a side of lemon and MORE large chunks of lobster and crab on the top, adorned with some fresh herbs, I would have this omelette again in a heartbeat and would recommend it to anyone who has never eaten at The Witchery before!
Without a doubt, once the main course was taken away, I was full! But not so full that I couldn't temp myself away from peeking a look at the dessert menu! For my dessert I choose to get the Apple Cinnamon Tea because it came with a tray of 6 Traditional Scottish biscuits, which happen to be one of my favorite little treats that would fit perfectly into my stomach after my amazing main course experience!
Both of my parents thoroughly enjoyed their appetizers, main courses and desserts as well, so to say the least, this 5 Star restaurant dining experience was definitely worth the time, earning another 5 stars from me!
From the mahogany esque, gothic styled 5-star dining room to the attentive waiting staff and decadent food, The Witchery restaurant, located at the very top of the Royal Mile (just before the Castle), should be a must eat at destination during your future trip to Edinburgh, Scotland!
Who knows while I am here I may just have to treat myself to this dining experience again! Or better yet if I meet a Scotsman he can take me out for a romantic evening, as this place is perfect for any special occasion!
Until Next Time...
Cheers,
Meghan Chayka
